Bringing a Spouse or Partner from Iran to Spain

Once you have established your residency in Spain, you can bring your spouse or registered partner from Iran to Spain. This page explains the income, housing, and health insurance requirements, and the consular legalization path for an Iranian marriage certificate.

What Is Spousal or Partner Reunification?

A person who holds legal residency in Spain (reagrupante) can ask the Spanish government to bring their legal spouse or officially registered partner (pareja de hecho registrada) from Iran to Spain. This path requires proof of sufficient income, suitable housing, and health insurance.

Requirements for the Resident (Reagrupante)

  • At least one year of legal residency in Spain
  • A residency permit renewable for at least one more year
  • Sufficient income according to the IPREM scale (details below)
  • Suitable housing, confirmed by an idoneidad de vivienda (housing suitability) report
  • Valid health insurance for yourself and your spouse after arrival

Required Income Table (IPREM)

The required income is calculated as a percentage of the IPREM (public multi-purpose income indicator):

SituationPercentage of IPREM
Family unit of up to 4 people (resident + spouse)Around 150% of IPREM
Each additional family member+50% of IPREM per person
Annual IPREM update

The exact IPREM amount is set each year in Spain's General State Budget Law. Always check the current official figure before submitting your file.

Required Documents About the Spouse and the Relationship

  • Marriage certificate or official registered partnership certificate (pareja de hecho)
  • Valid passport of the spouse or partner
  • Criminal record certificate for the spouse from Iran
Consular legalization, not an apostille

Iran is not a member of the Hague Apostille Convention. The Iranian marriage certificate must first be legalized (legalizado) in Iran and then at the consular section of the Spanish Embassy in Tehran, rather than simply receiving an apostille stamp. It must then be officially translated into Spanish. Read the full details on our consular document legalization page.
