CCSE and DELE A2 Exams for Spanish Nationality

Nearly every path to Spanish nationality, whether through ten years of residency or through marriage, requires passing two official exams: CCSE (knowledge of the Spanish constitution and society) and DELE A2 (Spanish language). On this page we explain the content, cost, and registration process for both.

What Is the CCSE Exam?

CCSE stands for "knowledge of the Spanish constitution and society." This exam is administered by the Instituto Cervantes and consists of 25 multiple-choice questions about Spain's political system, history, geography, culture, and everyday life. You need at least 15 correct answers to pass.

No expiration

Once you pass the CCSE exam, the certificate has no expiration date and remains valid permanently, unlike some other certificates that require renewal.

What Is the DELE A2 Exam?

DELE A2 is the official basic-level Spanish language certificate, which tests your ability to understand and use simple everyday expressions. This exam includes four sections: listening comprehension, reading comprehension, written expression, and oral conversation.

No nationality-based exemption for Iranians

Exemption from the DELE exam applies only to people under 18, over 70, or those who completed their official schooling in Spanish. None of these exemptions apply based on Iranian nationality.
