Paths to Spanish Nationality for Iranian Citizens

Unlike citizens of Latin American countries or the Philippines, Iranians do not benefit from the reduced two-year residency period for nationality and must follow the general ten-year path or the marriage path. Iranian identity documents must also go through consular legalization before they can be submitted.

A key difference for Iranians

Iran is not a member of the Hague Apostille Convention. Birth certificates, criminal record certificates, and other official Iranian documents must be legalized (legalizado) through the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and then the consular section of the Spanish Embassy, rather than simply receiving an apostille. See the document legalization section for more details.
